The Colors of a Hawaiian Sunset, in Paper

WWarm paper colors inspired by a Hawaiian sunset

Translating the gradient of a sky into fixed strips of paper is its own small science.

A sunset is never one color. To render it in paper we layer warm strips — marigold into coral into a dusty rose — and let the eye blend them the way it blends the sky. The trick is value, not hue: get the light-to-dark order right and almost any palette reads as evening.

It is the same instinct a painter uses, worked in coils instead of brushstrokes.
